MFD Cadet Volunteer Program

Fire Cadets are an essential part of our team, assisting in a variety of operational functions as they shadow our Firefighters in responding to emergency and fire calls for service. Cadets are trained to lay hose lines, direct water streams, operate pumps and extinguishers, and most importantly, work together as a team to ensure the safety of our community. Our program offers a unique opportunity for young adults to gain valuable experience in the field of firefighting while participating in training programs and equipment and apparatus maintenance. Join us today to become a part of our team and make a difference in your community!

The Commitment

The cadet position is a non-sworn position, in which the cadets are required to volunteer an equivalent of four 24 hour shifts per month as an additional member of an engine company, truck company or paramedic squad. Cadets are directly supervised by a department captain during their shifts. The cadets in the program are required to complete scheduled shift drills and participate in quarterly training. Upon an available opening within the department cadets also performing well in the program may also be eligible for full time employment as a firefighter or firefighter/paramedic through an interview process with the Fire Chief.
